This beautifully furnished and spacious (550 square feet with 10 foot ceilings) studio apartment offers one queen bed/living area (tv, air conditioning), hardwood floors, period trim, kitchenette (refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster), and private shower/bathroom. The apartment sits within a delightful and completely restored 1891 limestone townhouse and is located on the third floor rear for peace and quiet. Enjoy fast access to all the Upper West Side has to offer. Convenient for subway (2 blocks), Central Park (3 blocks) and all manner of nearby entertainment (restaurants, theaters, gourmet groceries, natural history museum) and not so far from Manhattan's other notable tourist attractions as to be a nuisance.
Our goal is to provide the best of both worlds: that is to say reasonably priced spacious high end accommodations in a neighborhood that feels more native than tourist and yet not so far away as to render your stay inconvenient for all that New York City has to offer. We have been voted as one of the best alternatives to a hotel in New York by Frommers on several occasions, and featured in other notable publications such as the New York Times, National Geographic Traveler, USA Today, Virgin Travel Guides, 50 to 100 best Wonderful Little Hotels in New York, Lonely Planet, Time Out NY, and Louis Vuitton to name a few.
We have been in operation since 1991. The owners live on site but please note that we are a low service operation and offer light cleans for extended stays (every 4 days). We accept all adult clientele and are gay-friendly.
Dear Roann, Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your stay with us. We use an on demand hot water system for reasons of energy conservation. During non-peak periods there is a delay in getting hot water only because it takes time to travel up from the basement where our hot water supply resides. As I'm sure you found out it remains once it is in the pipes. We are also sorry to hear that you found us a 'bit pricey' but in the scheme of New York City we have always been considered (since 1991) a relative bargain for what we provide. The hotel average is often well above our rates and we had sold the apartment at a big discount off our lowest official rates. Alas as consumers have been forced to tighten their belts in this difficult economy it has become increasing difficult for small operators such as ourselves to survive. Advertising costs and energy costs have gone up dramatically while demand has dropped, particularly in the slower months such as Jan and Feb. Indeed taxes are high in New York City and we would of course rather not have to pass them onto our guests but such is the law. We hope you will consider staying with us again and we highly recommend the terrace in the warmer months as you hinted. Regards, Fergus O'Brien.
You and Fergus
