Room with private bath

We drove to Portland and to see the shore and enjoy the sea. Joe and his wife gave us helpful information and we had good conversation. Unfortunately we were not allowed to cook (lobster) on our own although the kitchen usage was advertised. He offered us to make a deal: Buy two additional lobsters for him and his wife and he cooks everything for us what we denied.

We had a wonderful stay with Joseph and Martha! Their house is located within walking distance of downtown and the bedroom looks just as cozy and welcoming as the pictures would suggest. Joseph sent us some great recommendations for restaurants and sights the area before we arrived. We particularly enjoyed a lovely breakfast with them which was filled with good food (Martha made us delicious homemade scones) and great conversation. It was so interesting to hear about their travels and to learn more about Martha's current artistic projects. We would definitely love to stay with them again next time we go to Portland!

My husband and I had a great time in Portland! The bed was very comfortable, and the room was cozy. We both enjoyed our experience there!

This was just an ideal airbnb stay. The room is very private, the bed very large, and the hosts kind and congenial. We felt very fortunate to have met them, and hope to stay with them again soon.

Joe and Martha are very nice. Martha's scones, yogurt, and berry breakfast is delicious. The house is about a 20-minute walk to the Old Port Area, or a very quick drive. The room is quiet and comfortable, and warm even when it was 16 degrees outside. A great selection of DVDs, including Fargo! We watched DVDs on our laptop which we'd brought, since the TV screen is a bit small. The mattress was a bit soft for my taste, but dressed in lovely warm and comfy bedding.

Convenient location and homey ambiance. We loved learning about Martha's work as a fiber artist! In terms of accomodations, the room is large and segmented from the rest of the house, so feels private. I love baths and so didn't mind the absence of the shower - there is a beautiful old claw-foot tub. Also, Martha generously offered us scones and fresh coffee in the mornings. We would definitely stay here again!!

Staying with Martha and Joe worked out beautifully! The room was spacious, with a king bed, a private bathroom with lots of towels, and good lighting. Having a key so we could come and go was very helpful. Martha's scones are delicious, and we enjoyed our breakfasts. Both hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming. One caution: The bedroom is a few steps up from the second floor, so this would not be a good choice for people who have trouble climbing stairs.

I enjoyed my stay at Martha's and Jo's room for the week. Both Jo and Martha are very welcoming. I specially enjoyed conversing with Martha on that one day I was able to make it down for breakfast :). The room is lovely and the bed is exceptionally comfortable. The room and bathroom were well kept and clean. Martha's work and the Marques' deep roots in Maine will truly give you a unique and true ME experience. I would definitely stay with at the Marques's room again!

Joseph and Martha were amazing hosts! My girlfriend and I had a wonderful time and a great nights sleep. Joseph has all of the food and entertainment recommendations that you could want and Martha's Scones for breakfast are to die for. We love meeting new people and sharing stories over a great meal. We had a great taste of Portland and plan to return to explore some more.

Martha and Joe are cool. Martha sits and talks to us while we eat yogurt, fruit, scones, while also knitting this beautiful sweater. Joe pops in and out and we chat about the transition from hard copy newspapers to digital media. We had a great time!

Martha and Joe Marquis are two very warm and special people. The good food and warm hospitality would definitely result in a return visit. PJM
