We have a beautiful and private guest room with private bathroom in our 160 year old historical home, located deep in the Bywater. Hear the sounds of trains, tug boats and the odd chicken crowing at sun set while being steps away to the famous Vuaghan's Bar, where Kermit Ruffins does his weekly throw down every Thursday night, great southern authentic BBQ at the Joint, great old world style and jazz at Bacchanal Fine Wine & Spirits and we are adjacent to the Marigny neighborhood which is home to Frenchman street, where all great New Orleans musicians play. The room has a very high end comfortable double mattress and the bath room as traditional claw foot bathtub with fresh towels.

There is plenty of parking and we are a 5 min drive from the French Quarter or a 15 min bike ride. We offer Bikes with the rental. Bikes to rent on Frenchman street go for 35 bucks a day! And biking the city is the best way to see all the magic.

New Orleans Summers can be hot! The Room has a ceiling fan and the house has central AC that we turn on during very hot spells. Also a window AC unit can be provided.

Your section of the house is private and you have an enterance to come and go. We do not mind those who want to hit the night life and come home late.

You will share the house with me and Mississippi & Henry Miller (my small slightly weird and very cute dogs) Our house is best for those with a car during the very hot summer months or those who like to bike. Public transit is ok and there are 2 buses that bring you to the Quarter, however they do not run so often at night. Also you can get scooter rentals uptown (which is a really great way to see all of New Orleans)

Read up on our reviews for our Cottage which is located also on the property. You can see that we provide a sweet and elegant home with all the little details that make a trip to New Orleans great.

PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING

1- we are located off the beaten path. 2,5 Miles from the French Quarter and 6 miles from the Garden District. To the Quarter that means it is a very long walk, easy 15 min bike ride, 5 min by taxi or car)

2- Weather- It is chilly from Dec-Feb and hot! from June-September, so biking during these months is not recommended for faint at heart. However biking during the early morning and at night in the summer is very sweet. Biking during the afternoon in the winter months is nice too.

3- our space is not recommended for the elderly or kids

4- the public transit is slow in New Orleans. we provide bus maps/schedules (88 st claude bus brings you right to the quarter) but we do not recommend taking the bus at night. It is a 12-15 dollar cab right to or from the quarter and we can happily provide you with numbers for taxi companies

5- safety- New Orleans does not have a long standing rep as being a safe city. However i have heard about many more muggings in the Quarter than anything happening in our neighborhood. None the less, we recommend biking in pairs during the late night hours

6- who we think is most suited for our space- urban savvy folks who like our selves who wanted to be outside the tourist traps and are traveling on a budget. We suggest those with a car OR those planning on renting a car OR those willing to be bike adventurers. The buses do not go everywhere and things are so spread out to walk. If you are thinking of taking cabs back and forth from the quarter or festivals (therefore not biking or using a car ) then you might as well book something which is closer to the quarter and spend the money you would on cabs on an expensive room. (you are looking at $100 and up a night- $150 and up in the quarter)
This space is also great for those here for a conference and need budget accommodation or here for a project and need a reasonable priced place to stay for a few weeks or a month.

7- Renting a car in the summer or if you are just not that into bikes- it cost about $35 to a get a cab from the airport to the Quarter- $40 from the airport to our cottage. Same price for the return trip. To rent a car for the weekend it is about $70 (less than the round trip in cabs to the airport)if you book on Hotwire or PriceLine name your own price and in advance. So if you are coming for a weekend visit we recommend renting a car. THis way you can hit all things great about this city. The Garden District Uptown, City Park area, check out the Lower 9th Ward and see how the rebuilding it going, Audubon Park and Zoo etc. We will happily share with you are favorite places all over the city.

  • I loved staying at Leesaw & Chad's darling home! My lovely room was perfect with a comfy bed, ceiling fan, and private bathroom. Beautiful decoration throughout their home. The map & recommendations provided were great! Also loved having use of the cruiser bike and getting to see the Bywater from a new angle. The dogs, Mississippi and Henry Miller, were so sweet, and their visits to my room just added to the homey feel. Just make sure you leave enough time to get to the airport; my 5am cab was 1/2 hour late. But I still made my flight, and thank Leesaw for a great stay!

Lees' space is the quintessential NoLa experience. Her house is immaculate and has all the otherworldly class, style, and heart you'd hope to find in such a unique city. I loved the clawfoot soaking tub in my adjoining bathroom, the super-luxurious towels, and the proud rooster outside my window.

  • Leesaw's home is warm, inviting, and well-loved, and I truly enjoyed staying there! This is my second time staying with Leesaw. I've stayed in both her guest house and in the bedroom, and I love both of them. Both have charming details like homemade quilts and hand painted desks. The bedroom has a beautiful, large, sunny bathroom with a clawfoot tub and a private entrance. The guesthouse is detached and in the garden, and it has a gorgeous slate shower and a kitchenette for coffee and tea-making. The Bywater is a wonderful base to explore New Orleans. Leesaw's home is away from the noise of the French Quarter, but within biking distance of the sights. I was thrilled to have the complimentary use of Leesaw's adorable beach cruiser! The home is within walking distance of great restaurants like the Joint in the Bywater and biking distance of nightlife in the Marigny. Taxis in New Orleans are relatively inexpensive, so we opted to take cabs to spots further afield like Cochon and the Roosevelt Hotel. Leesaw is an ideal host. She is communicative and responds quickly to questions. Leesaw cares a lot about her guests, which is evident in her recommended list of local restaurants and in the non-obtrusive way that she checked in just to see if we were comfortable. I would highly recommend staying with Leesaw in either of her available spaces.

  • Immensely enjoyed a relaxed long weekend at Leesaw's house. She was the epitome of a low-key but attentive host, and her absolutely gorgeous, cozy home made me consider canceling my return flight home. Many thanks, Leesaw. See you soon, I hope.

  • I really enjoyed staying with Leesaw and Chad. The room and home are lovely- full of character- and Leesaw was helpful and made me feel at home. It was nice to stay outside of the downtown area and get a different feel for the city.

  • Leesaw is such a wonderful, kind, accomodating, and hospitable hostess! I had a horrific travel experience from Philly to New Orleans and American Airlines lost my luggage as well. Leesaw not only was super understanding, but she also lent me some clothes and toiletries...and even gave me some water and fruit upon my arrival to make sure I was ok! Her home is amazing with a very laid-back atmosphere, and very close to the quarter. Leesaw provided directions and lots of helpful tips...and the pups are adorable as well! She made what could have been a very bad experience a MUCH more pleasant and enjoyable one. I highly, highly recommend her place as a great, cost-effective alternative to the overpriced hotels in the Quarter.

  • When I was informed via email that I could access the room I was staying in through a red door guarded by blooming lemon trees, I was certain that I had found the right place. This turned out to be one of a handful of charming features at Leesaw & Chads place that had nothing to do with their visually stunning neighborhood with it's pockets of shops & restaurants perfect to discover on the cruisers they lent us. It was my girlfriend and my first time to New Orleans and I can't imagine not taking bikes into the French Quarter from this distance. It is the perfect build-up and the continuity is strangely perfect. The room is all you need whilst staying here as you will be on the go most of the time anyways and a comfortable bed is what you want (and will find) at the end of the day. A beautifully tiled bathroom and claw foot tub turns out to be what you need also and a river breeze that brings in the sun and the sounds of the passing barges through the bedside window seems excessive but you'll have it anyways. Chad & Leesaw were exceedingly kind and have created a wonderful environment for visitors. They included personalized maps of the city with recommendations and seemed to have the hosting business down to a simple science. I am extrememly grateful to have found this place as well as to have met this couple. There is no question about my return to their home the next time I am in the city.

  • We really enjoyed our stay with Leesaw! The room and attached bathroom was everything we needed for our two night stay in New Orleans. We loved using the bikes to get around the city - the French Quarter is only a short ride away and Leesaw provided us a map with the best bike routes. Was also nice to have a kitchen we were free to use. Overall perfect for our trip!

  • I felt very welcome in the Chad and Leesaw's home. Chad even left out different tea bags for me each morning because I told him I preferred tea. My room and the bathroom were clean with fresh linens.

  • I had a wonderful stay with Leesaw and Chad at their beautiful Bywater home. The house itself is amazing. It definitely gives you a different sense of what this city used to be. My hosts were awesome. They helped me unload my things, hooked me up with a realtor, and even let me stash my stuff in the room for an extra day while I got set up in a new space. I was a little worried about renting a room in someone's house but it really felt like having my own place. Leesaw and Chad gave me plenty of space and I'd definitely stay here again. Basically, this is the place to be if you're interested in getting a new look at New Orleans.

  • About: I first visited New Orleans when I was 14yrs old and knew in my bones that one day it would be home. after living in NYC for 15 years I began to crave space, slowness and new way of life. New Orleans has been part time home since 2004 and finally was able to move down January 2010. I am a creative soul who love to cook, have a great conversation, bang around on the guitar, go for a bike ride and walk to the Mississippi River (5 min walk from the house) with my two dogs. I love to share my passion for this city and hope you will fall in love with it just as I have. My home is a safe and inspiring place for artists, travelers, healers and musicians. I welcome you to explore our neighborhood and feel the magic of this great city. Our cottage will not be available this summer since I will be touring through Europe with my musical project and I hope to use Air Bnb to find sweet places to stay along the way
