Christina San Francisco 60 bookings
I could barely cover my bills even while working multiple jobs. I felt trapped, frustrated, and bored. But when my roommate moved out, a friend introduced me to Airbnb. I started to host guests from all over the world, and the money paid for my rent while letting me work from home full-time. Now I'm buying my own home to expand my B&B business.

FUND A FLAT UPDATE

Shop, dine out, or renovate? With their secret “Airbnb pockets,” Nic and Scott get to choose all of the above.

Nic & Scott London 25 bookings
I left my job 18 months ago and decided to retrain as a reflexologist. During that transition period, Airbnb helped me financially. Each month I was able to chip away at half my mortgage and even have extra income for dinners or shopping. I call it “using my Airbnb pockets.” Not only that, but all of our guests have been amazing. Some of them have even left gifts for us, whether it be a bottle of wine, box of chocolates, or even personal invites to have us come and visit them in their country.

RECESSION– PROOF YOUR LIFE

Daniela lost her job and didn’t know where to turn. She found Airbnb, and suddenly the future wasn’t so scary.

Daniela Rome 76 bookings
Airbnb changed my life! I was quite unsatisfied with my work: the same boring duties all the time and few professional opportunities. The turning point was the nonrenewal of my employment contract. But something happened out of the blue: a work colleague showed me a flat he had just rented on Airbnb. I immediately loved the spirit of the site. I will never forget my first guests! And since then, I have not stopped.

Who can host?

Anyone with some space to spare can be a host. It’s that simple.

Whether you have a spare bedroom, own a second property, have a treehouse, or just want to rent your place and pay for your travels, you can list it on Airbnb. Our Customer Service team can walk you through the process of figuring out how much space you might have available and how you might benefit.

How do I get paid?

Airbnb collects payment from your guest electronically and transfers it to you via direct deposit, Paypal, check, or wire transfer. The money appears in your account 24 hours after your guest checks in. In addition, we collect an optional security deposit on your behalf in case you need additional peace of mind.

It's free to list your space on Airbnb, and we make money when you make money. Based on your reservation total, the 3% host fee covers transaction fees. The guest contributes a 6% to 12% guest fee.

We work hard to make sure that you don't have to sweat the details. Guests occupy your space, money goes into your bank, and you can treat yourself to something nice.

Do I need to be there with my guests?

It’s up to you! Airbnb does not require you to be present while guests are staying in your space. About 50% of our hosts rent out entire properties, like second homes or their primary residence while traveling. The other 50% rent out private rooms in their residence while they are present.

While rules and regulations differ from place to place, Airbnb hosts generally enjoy a wide range of choice when it comes to the degree of interaction with their guests.

There are many ways to host, and signing up is free of commitment. So feel free to find whatever style works for you!

What about safety, security, and privacy?

Your security is our number-one priority. We feature a wide range of safety and security measures to help you have a great experience.

We provide rich communication channels and information about your guests, so you never have to say “yes” to a booking until you’re 100% confident. You can select the visibility of your listing to match your comfort level, pre-screen and message guests securely (without giving away your contact information), read reviews of guests from other hosts, and - of course - contact our Customer Service team anytime, wherever you are.

You’re always in control of who stays at your place.

With more than 5 million nights booked, we know that most stays are incident free. But we realize you need peace of mind. Our Host Guarantee covers you for loss or damage caused by theft or vandalism from an Airbnb guest - up to $50,000. Learn more about Trust & Safety

What are my obligations?

Should I provide kitchen access? A hair dryer? Breakfast?

Airbnb hosts have a wide range of choices when it comes to which services and amenities to provide. You can opt for a “five-star” experience, providing everything from toothbrushes to bedroom slippers. Or you can provide the bare basics: clean, comfortable accommodation without any frills. Or anything in between. It’s entirely up to you.

The Description, Amenities, and House Rules features let you manage expectations and communicate clearly with potential guests up front.

How do I set up my listing?

Filling out your personal profile and creating listings is easy. Our interface guides you through the process of entering your information and any details that help potential guests learn more about your place.

This is your time to shine: you have the opportunity to tell guests what's appealing, special, and attractive about your place. We find that hosts enjoy putting themselves in travelers' shoes and looking at their own spaces with fresh eyes. If you want, we'll even send a professional photographer to help you with presentation.

Take as much time as you need: your listing will not be visible until you're 100% ready.

How much should I charge?

Hosts have a great deal of flexibility in pricing. You know your property best, so we feel that you should have the power to charge as little or as much as you like.

If you’re looking for guidance, it’s a good idea to check out similar listings in your area. Keeping your prices low will generate more demand, leading to more bookings. Hosts with many positive reviews may elect to raise their prices to reflect the high-quality experience they’re providing.

In the end, you should feel as though you’re charging a fair price for the value you’re providing. Feedback from guests is a great way to hone your listing’s price.
