Sorry - Children over 9 only.
Red Mountain Cottage is beautifully and quietly situated on the edge of Carbost village, with stunning views overlooking Loch Harport and towards the Cuillin Mountains. This is a small, modern, but very well appointed cottage/cabin has been lovingly created to a high specification, including handmade beds and sills & a feature wall. The cottage sleeps 3, but is ideal for couples seeking a romantic break, as well as for sight-seeing, walking and climbing.
The space
The cottage is double glazed throughout and is heated by modern electric wall heaters.
The cottage has a comfortable and modern sitting and dining room with stunning views over Loch Harport from the large picture window. Smart TV and fairly good Wi-Fi is available if you can tear yourself away from the view. However, please note that our WiFi signal in Carbost is sometimes variable!
The kitchen also affords guests more lovely views over the loch. It is very well equipped, including a gas hob/oven, extractor fan, fridge, microwave and washing machine.
The pretty double bedroom (standard UK mattress 135 cms) has fitted wardrobes, a lovely bespoke larch headboard and window sill (made by our son) and lovely views towards the Cuillin Mountains. If you are awake, you can watch the glorious sunrise over the mountains. The single bedroom, has an adult-sized single bed, an over-bed reading light and a double wardrobe.
The modern bathroom has a walk-in shower, shaver point and heated towel rail.
There is a hair drier, iron and ironing board. There is a cafetière, an Italian stove top coffee kettle and a small Nespresso machine. (You will need to bring your own coffee or capsules.) We provide instant coffee in the kitchen.
Babies/Children: We love children, but unfortunately the cottage is not suitable for children under the age of 10 years of age.
All cleaning costs and electricity costs for heating and hot water is included.
Guest access
All bed linen and towels is included, as well as tea towels, washing up liquid and cloth and washing powder. Guests must bring their own towels if they wish to take them to the beach or leisure centre/pool in Portree.
There are 2 clothes airers, one of which is electric.
Guests are welcome to use our washing line, provided that it is not in use.
Disabled Access: There are 2 steps and a high door sill into the cottage. There is not a ramp and the space inside and door widths mean that we have listed it as unsuitable for disabled persons.
The charging of electric vehicles is not permissible as in effect we would be paying for your fuel! Sorry! The number of charging points on the island is increasing.
Other things to note
Depending on factors such our availability on changeover days and the time of the year* can sometimes offer 2 and 3 nights breaks. (*eg November to March)
(Most of our shorter-stay guests, tell us that they they wished that they had booked a longer stay. Many guests underestimate the travelling time on the narrow and winding Scottish roads. They arrive late, having driven a long distance and frequently feel very tired. Often they have a list of places that they would like to visit and are frustrated that they do not have the time to visit them all in just one day. In order to enjoy the Isle of Skye , you need at least a 3 and preferably a 4 night stay and even then, you will only get a flavour of this large and beautiful island. We would recommend at least 4 nights, giving you 4 full days to enjoy just some of the Isle of Skye. We give this advice honestly and for your benefit. Whilst its population may be small, after Lewis and Harris (combined), the Isle of Skye is the biggest island in Britain.
Journey times: getting here takes a long time! Inverness / Fort William: 2 1/2 - 3 hours. Edinburgh /Glasgow: 6 -7 hours minimum. Skye Bridge or Skye Ferry is an hour away. Satellite navigation may give you shorter times, but they do not take account of narrow, winding roads, fuel or comfort stops.)
HOLIDAY INSURANCE: The cottage provides most of our income. For the same reason that you would find a few days loss of pay difficult, we cannot refund last minute cancellations. (Eg weather, covid, cancelled flights, etc.) Please consider taking out appropriate insurance, particularly during the winter months. We are nice people and feel dreadful when we can’t offer refunds!!
Rental costs INCLUDE cleaning (currently costing us £100) electricity, lights/heating, etc. The “service fee” that guests pay to Airbnb are Airbnb’s booking fees, not ours!) Airbnb also add VAT. Wifi is free. (Average 80 -90 MBPS)
