The space
The Blue Ridge Terrace is a private entrance upstairs cabin located above my husband’s wood shop. This unit is separate from our home located 20 yards away. The views from the windows are of the forest and pond.

The cutest mini farm house bunks were built here at Heartwood.

Guest access
Hot tub ♥ Private use, large 6 person hot tub with jetted lounger.
Pond ♥ Fish and Swim, 20ft deep and 1 acre across (qualifies as a small lake).
Two zip lines ♥ Easy hop in chairs w/ 250lb limit per line.
Hiking trails ♥ You are welcome to explore. Our longest trail is 1 mile.
Parking ♥ space for two vehicles.
Boats ♥ our humble peddle boat and paddle boat are complimentary. You may have to dump some water prior to use.

Other things to note
Bring your fishing poles and some chicken livers when the weather is warm, and you are almost guaranteed to catch a fish! We have large and small mouth bass, catfish, and bluegills. Please modify your hooks for catch and release only (we can show you how).

Cell coverage is an issue throughout Floyd. We have installed a cell signal amplifier on the cabin and have great cell and data service from the nearest Verizon tower (several carriers use this network). Others may be iffy. We have the best internet plan available in Floyd County (fiberoptic). This doesn't mean we can control system outages, but we will call the provider and keep you informed if there is an issue.

Power outages happen a few times a year; usually when we have big snow storms (late Jan- early Mar). They normally last a few hours. For overnight outages we can offer a generator to run heat and the fridge along with candles, or the option of a refund.

During late fall/winter hunting season, you may encounter a deer being dressed from the deer hanger, or fish being cleaned in the catfish shack during summer. There will occasionally be a tractor or two running during the day. Wear something orange (during hunting seasons) while exploring close to the property line at the top of the mountain during the first and last hours of daylight. We will notify you the day before if my husband or father-in-law (experienced hunters) plan to be in the woods.

We welcome all walks of life here, including dogs who get along well with strangers and off leash animals. Our dog, Silas, runs free and may try to follow you on your hikes. If you would not bring your dog to a dog park then please do not bring them here. Unfortunately our insurance does not allow for American Pit Bull Terriers. Please verify that your dog is well socialized when making a reservation.

We look forward to meeting you and yours!

Neighborhood highlights

At 66 acres we are the small farm in this neck of the woods surrounded by two 200+ acre cattle farms and a horse ranch. Our wooded property keeps the neighbors from view unless you head to one of the lookout spots along our mountain trails. The center of town (Floyd) is just under 11 miles away.

Born in the 70s
Where I went to school: SIU
I am a retired Navy veteran from Southern California who moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia in my husband's hometown of Floyd. Although I love this peaceful rural life, I do miss my neighbors. Sometimes it is nice to see a wave from across the street, or to hear about things that are happening in town. If you need a cup of sugar, don't hesitate to ask.
