The space
This unit is a beautiful upper story retreat with a view of the park and river. Private spacious entrance. stairs lead up to main space including one luxurious bedroom, library room with books, eat in kitchen, and a sun porch . 2 bedrooms with views on 3rd floor.

The house was built by James and Eliza Blanchard, James was the son of village namesake Alvin Blanchard. We have named the house the Eliza House to honor the woman the house was built for. The home was purchased from Eliza Blanchard's daughter after her death by our great-grandparents, Hannock and Pearl. Their son Rex and his wife Francis also lived in the home. The third generation to live in the house, Tom and Kay, made big changes to the upper two floors, turning it into a showplace for their furniture and interior design business on Main Street in Blanchardville. This business closed in 1998 upon their retirement. The fourth generation of the family to live in the house is Paul, who lived there prior to being married to Julie, and then the whole family lived in the house for a year while their home was under renovation. For 75 years, up until early 2017 four generations of the Saether family operated a funeral home on the lower levels of the home. As the second family to own the house and the fourth generation of our family to own the house, we wish to welcome you to enjoy the Eliza House.

Neighborhood highlights

The neighborhood of the house is residential, but there is room to park up to 7 cars in our parking lot. The house is situated across the street from the Pecatonica river and our large village park with a small camp ground, shelter houses and playground equipment up a hill on the upper level of the park. A walk bridge crosses the river, making the park just a 5-minute walk. A river landing is also a 5 minute walk into the country near the house.

Our downtown area is also just a 5 minute walk across a beautifully curved bridge with an overhead view of our village dam and waterfall bordered by park areas. Our downtown holds several businesses you may enjoy visiting during your stay including 3 taverns (all serving food), a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch and Friday night fish, village museum (open Saturday mornings in season), hardware store, grocery store, home decor store, antique store, gas & convenience store, holistic health center (by appointment), hair salons, Ryan Park (beautifully landscaped with a cedar shelter) and our own Blanchard Hall event center (blanchardhall.com).
